Near is Not Close Enough

The next statement is not about the slow motion nearness of death: the rewind life review, the piercing chirp of a cardinal over quiet fields of clean white sheets and sunlight.

No, all that is death as companion, neighbor, or visitor. The juggling moments before overpowering this motion called life. Death drains perception of nuance and is the owner of our eyes.

Back to that statement: The soul is death and we an imposter – a lie through and through – a soul amnesiac whose truth floods into him like morning. Near is not close enough to burn.
